SC Department
of Motor Vehicles Exams
In Bluffton, South Carolina, the Department of Motor Vehicles administers a simple eye test to determine if individuals have 20/40 vision or better. If an individual fails this screening, they must visit a licensed eye care professional who will assess if their eyes meet the state's vision requirements. If improvement is possible through lenses or treatment, a driver’s license may be issued with the requirement of wearing corrective eyewear while driving.
Submission of all Certificate of Vision Examination results must be done through the SCDMV's online portal. Effective 2022, the SCDMV no longer accepts paper certificates from SC-licensed eye care professionals for license renewals.
